Aerial views never cease to amaze me, unmasking familiar places as parts of some large and complex organism and this is showing up in abstracted landscapes in a style that resembles aerial photography or oblique photos that depict the landscape from above.

My tendency is to put all reference material aside and work more intuitively with the paint and surface. I love the process of layering; the first thin washes of transparent colour and later finding interesting shapes and lines to retain. I then use a variety of tools and mark-making to define and design a pleasing composition. I explore the relationships between layers, shapes and lines, and enjoy exploring mark-making and communicating a memory of a place and a certain time.
