Shoreline in Blue

Statement

My focus is on landscapes and semi-abstracted land formations in watercolour, acrylics and oils and I often play with time and the memory of place to convey my emotional attachment to the land. My painting style is somewhere between realism/impressionism to expressionism depending on my mood and the medium, with a preference and desire to capture the light. After drawing a thumbnail sketch, my tendency is to put all reference material aside and work more intuitively with the paint and surface.

I am attracted to paint the world around me; the views of daily walks in the forest and to the river, and trips to the mountains. I endeavour to recreate the world directly in front of me on canvas that is part reality and part imagination.
